I can’t believe that in one week from today I’ll be rolling into Wausau Wisconsin and meeting my trailer for the first time!
I’m giddy like a schoolgirl! It sort of feels a little like I’m going on a first date.
Let me set the scene.

FADE IN:
INT. BETH’S SUBARU – DAY – PARKING
A tall tomboy ready for adventure and anxious to meet her new companion parks her car at the rendezvous point. She leaves the car, the anticipation building inside her, and walks over to where they will meet for the first time.
As she approaches, she can see her date in the distance. The details begin to emerge. The bright inviting color of her carefully selected outfit. Her sexy lines silhouetted against a backdrop that fails to catch any attention because of the figure before it. The glittering accents she’s taken such care to adorn that capture the light but don’t overshadow the beauty that is the wearer.

You see, this may be our first date but I’m not walking into this completely blind. I know a little bit about her already. I know we share a lot of the same ambitions. We both want to see the world. We understand that our future may result in a few scratches on the surface, but those scratches, wrinkles and age spots will just act as reminders of how much we’ve enjoyed living our lives together.
We both love the outdoors and travel, and every chance we have to hit the open road we’ll take.
Of course, when we’re not out traveling together, we’ll most likely be hanging out in my garage. She’ll be hanging out while I build things in my wood shop.
Maybe I’ll even build a few things for her. Who doesn’t need a beautiful cutting board or box to organize things? I’ll let her tell me what she needs, and I’ll listen carefully.
Then, of course, there will be those quiet times. She’ll be sitting in the sun, recharging her batteries, Dingo will be resting on her bed and I be sitting in the shade read my book.
Periodically I’ll look over and see her drifting off, and I’ll just smile knowing this is the perfect match.
It may seem strange for me to leap to this conclusion. I mean, we haven’t even met yet, so this all may seem premature, but I just have this feeling.
I’m not going to say I’m not nervous, but it’s not about our date or whether or not we’ll be a good match. My nervousness is about the unknown. Where will we go together? Will Dingo like her? Will she feel at home in my home?
Beyond these questions, there are the facts. Neither one of us have ever driven across country before, let alone in the winter. Not to mention, I’ve been a solo traveler for a long time. Bringing this beautiful lady along with me is going to be an adjustment. I’ll need to learn a lot about how to navigate her little intricacies and quarks. I hear it’s important to not go too fast, and to make sure to take my time. That may be a big shift for me, but she’s worth it.
While it will be both of our responsibilities to protect each other, I can’t help but take on the job of being her guardian. Thankfully, unlike many other relationships, I know I’m safe with her. I know she’ll do all she can to make sure I’m out of the elements and warm, and that any intruder or wild animal that might threaten me would have to get through her first.
I can’t wait for you to all meet her! I know you’ll all love her just as much as I will.
Stay tuned as starting next week I’m going to be on the road! If I have reception I intend to post my trip in (close to) real time!
Dude. This is an outstanding attitude and a solid plan! I can’t wait to see her!
It will be wonderful to see her, I bet she is everything you want.
I’m eager and ready to hear your next “steps.” You’ve made me very eager to see her…what a good writer you are. Awaiting photos.
I can’t wait to see her. You will have to give her a special name.
Have a wonderful trip! I’m living vicariously through you.
